Amu scratched the back of her head, and sighed. Utau sat straight, on the edge of Amu’s bed. Her face was expressionless, but she was sure that Amu could see through it.
“Amu, please...I don’t know what I should do! Kukai loves me and so does Ikuto...but...I can’t choose!” Utau shook her head.
Amu closed her eyes, and took a deep breath.
“Well...I think you need more than the time Kukai gave you to choose, Utau.” Amu sighed. Utau glared.
“Wow, thanks for the advice.” Utau said sarcastically. “I could have never figured that out on my own or anything.”
“Dude, what an attitude.” Was Amu’s reply. Amu stood up, and walked over to her balcony. She glanced around, and then quickly stepped back inside, closing the door to the balcony, and then pulling the dark pink curtains across them. Amu leaned against them, her gaze full of sadness. Unlike Utau, Amu didn’t bother masking her emotions around her friend.
“Utau...listen. When I first met Ikuto, it’s because I fell into a hole, where he was sleeping. I landed on him.” Amu said quietly. For some reason, that made her blush. Utau glared.
“What, did you two fool around or something.” Utau said darkly.
“What?! NO!” Amu retorted. Her cheeks were really pink now. Utau stood up.
“Then why the heck are you blushing?” Utau retorted. Amu grunted.
“That’s not the point. Anyway, for a while there, I was confused about who I liked. No where near as confused as you, but I was. Though, I knew when Prince-er, I mean, Tadase-kun, returned my feelings...I knew that he was the one who I would love forever and ever.” Utau stared at her best friend, and saw Amu look so peaceful and serene. She had made the right choice.
“That’s great, Amu, but-.” Utau started, but Amu cut her off.
“I know that for you, it’s between Kukai and Ikuto. But, I think the right choice is Kukai!” Utau’s eyebrows shot up.
“What’s your reasoning for that?” Utau asked.
“Well, for starters, he isn’t your brother.” Amu said. Utau blushed, and looked furious.
“EXCUSE ME?!” Utau roared. Her emotions in her spiraled. What, so her best friend suddenly had a prejudice against her because she loved her brother? So?! Just because they happened to be siblings, that didn’t mean her feelings for Ikuto weren’t real!
“Hey, just let me explain!” Amu said quickly, afraid of Utau’s deadly eyes. Jeez, if looks could kill!
“I don’t know if I want to hear it, Amu! What, is it because I’m gross?! A pervert?! What would make it wrong?!” Utau cried. Her eyes were watery because of tears she refused to shed. Dammit, she thought she could trust Amu! Utau turned for the door, but Amu grabbed her wrist.
“Hey, hear me out, Utau! Just listen, okay?” Amu pleaded. Utau tore her wrist from Amu’s grasp. She took a deep breath, and stared expectantly. She was prepared to hear words of hate, disgust. She’d heard it all before. Amu took a breath of her own. “Listen, Utau, I don’t think it’s wrong, or disgusting, or perverted! I know that your feelings for Ikuto are real! But, I don’t think Ikuto is as good to you as Kukai is. Ikuto loves you, but he disappears all the time, he is sort of a womanizer, and because he’s your brother, it’s like you said a month ago! You can’t ever get married, have children, or be accepted by most of society! It’s not fair, but true!” Amu said. “I know that you’ve loved Ikuto since you were really small, and he has given you strength, but though he loves you, Utau, I don’t think it’s the same feelings as Kukai. Kukai loves you to death, Utau. I heard from Tadase, that after they took us home, Kukai CRIED because he was so relieved that you were safe!”
Utau’s eyes widened, and her lower lip trembled.
“You...you know that for sure? This is your feelings?”
“Yes. After all, I’ve felt them myself! Not for the same people, but I’ve been in a similar situation.” Amu smiled brightly. “I know, in the end, you will make the right decision. For you. And, everyone will finally be able to move forward.”
“But in the end...I will also have to break someone’s heart, Amu.” Utau said. She knew it. It was already there. A crack in her heart. It was more like a hairline fracture. She felt it, ready to split for when she chose. In the end, she would choose someone, and either Ikuto or Kukai would cut those feelings off forever.
“Utau-.” Amu began, but she stopped. Utau immediately knew why. They both sensed it. They ran to her balcony, and pushed the curtains back. They opened the door, and stood on the balcony.
Hundreds of X eggs were passing Amu’s house. Utau’s eyes widened. Amu growled. Neither of them had their guardian characters with them! They were off with Daichi.
“We need to alert the guardians!” Amu said, pulling her phone out.
“I’ll help you.” Utau said. Amu looked shocked.
“What? Why?!” Amu said, nearly dropping her phone. Utau rolled her eyes.
“You want me to believe you can honestly heal ALL of these X eggs...and I now know...*what its like to get an X on my self that I want to be.” Utau said quietly. Damn...she had forgotten her brother had sort of caused her to lose herself.
“Okay.” Was all Amu could say. Utau and Amu ran out of her room, and flew down her stairs. Her mom and dad looked up, surprised.
“Mama, Papa, Utau and I have to go!” Amu said, searching for her shoes. Utau grabbed her shoes, and pulled them on. She was really glad; all of the sudden, that she hadn’t worn those heels today.
“Where are you and Utau-chan going?” Amu’s mother asked. Amu started stammering, and Utau had a great urge to roll her eyes. Her friend was SO bad at lying!
“I need Amu to come with me to my manager. I still need to confirm with Sanjou-san Amu’s back up spot for *Summer Sonic.” Utau said. Amu whirled. Her parents and Amu said the same thing at the same time.
“WHAT? SUMMER SONIC!”
“Yes, that’s right. Amu is going to be on stage with me.” Utau lied smoothly. Well, maybe it wasn’t a complete lie. Utau tossed that aside for now. They had to deal with X eggs. But the expression Amu had was so obvious that she wasn’t filled in with this. “Anyway, we have to go. Now. Sorry for the intrusion. C’mon, Amu.”
“Ow, Utau, hey!”
Utau grabbed Amu by the ear and dragged her out of her own house. Amu quickly finished pulling her shoe on and ran after Utau.
“Utau! Summer Sonic?! Seriously?!” Amu cried out, falling in step with her friend.
“Later, Amu!” Utau said, rolling her eyes. Utau looked up into the sky. They turned towards the park she had been in earlier. “Amu, that way.”
“Right.”
They followed the flying heart-eggs. Utau and Amu entered the park, and they both gasped.
“Easter...” they said together. Standing in the center of the park, was what looked like a giant satellite dish. It was at least five feet wide and tall. Standing around it, was several Easter workers.
“Amu, call the guardians. Looks like Easter is ‘collecting’.” Utau grimaced.
“Collecting?” Amu asked. Utau nodded. She remembered them doing this every once in a while when she was with them.
“They do this once a month. They gather an abnormal amount of X eggs, for experiments. They must be low, since you cured a great deal of them when we broke into Easter.” Utau said. Amu nodded. Utau grabbed her phone, and dialed faster than Amu did. She had Kukai’s number.
“I’ll call Tadase, Rima, and Nagi. You get Kukai.”
“Right.” Utau replied. She already had the phone at her ear.
“Hello?” Kukai answered. Utau was paralyzed, her words not coming out. “Hey, hello?” Kukai asked again. Amu nudged Utau, and that brought her around.
“Kukai, it’s me. We have a problem.” Utau said quickly.
“Yeah, I’m kinda aware of that. Listen, Utau, we really need to talk. I don’t want it to end just like that. Come to the pool, please? Utau-.”
“Kukai, its Easter trouble.” Utau cut him off. Kukai’s end was silent for a second.
“Where?” Was he response. He sounded livid.
“The park by the plaza, remember how I told you about the collecting they do?”
“Gotcha!”
He had hung up, and Utau put her phone away. Amu was done too.
“The fastest Tadase and the others can get here is ten minutes.” Amu said, her voice worried.
“Kukai should be here any second. The pools pretty close.”
Utau felt so useless right now! She didn’t have her guardian characters with her, so she could not transform.
“Utau-chan!”
She whirled, and saw Iru and Eru flying towards them. She also saw Amu’s guardian characters behind them.
“Eru, Iru!”
“Utau, watch out!”  
Utau had seconds to turn and see the Easter workers fire at her. She felt black wings appear on her back, and she leapt out of the way.
Utau turned to the Easter workers. The guns they had fired X energy. She remembered Amu getting hit. It the same pain as a normal bullet, but not lethal.
Then, one of the Easter workers rose what looked like a small version of the satellite dish. The X eggs moved at his will. The X eggs slammed into both Amu and Utau, before they could transform. They pushed them into the air, their arms out and their feet together. They were trapped and bound by the X eggs. Ran, Miki, Su, Iru, and Eru were being squished too.
“Aah! Let us go!” Eru cried out, her closed eyes closed even tighter with tears. Iru tried to kick them off, but they wouldn’t budge.
“Hey!” Utau shouted out. “Put us down!” For some reason, she couldn’t help but have the vanity to think about how they were both wearing skirts, and being held so high up, those goons probably had great panty shots. Perfect.  Stupid X eggs, stupid perverted Easter men!
That thought seemed to cross Amu’s mind too.
“Put us down!” She squealed, her face going bright pink. Utau’s own face was pink, but she didn’t look like a squealing school girl. She looked like she wanted to kill them.
‘Jeez, if looks could kill’ passed through everyone’s mind, except hers. The X eggs somehow moved around them in an unnerving way.
Suddenly, X eggs flew around the Easter employees, and the one with the X egg controller, hovered next to Utau and Amu. He was the typical Easter goon. Black sunglasses, suit, short hair, disturbing smirk.
“Utau Tsukiyomi and Amu Hinamori, you two are coming with us to Easter for punishment. Remember what you did a month ago? Well, time to repent.” He chuckled. Utau was disgusted with him. How dare he talk to her like that? She gave him her darkest glare. He was obviously unnerved by such a dark look. He circled around them, and the eggs started to choke Utau.
“Ah!” Utau gasped, as the perv touch her lower back, a place where an X egg wasn’t. It was a sickening touch. “Hey, get your hands off of me!”
“Heh, why don’t you call for help?” Utau gasped again, as he touched her rib cage. The sick pervy goon was inching his way to the front of her chest!
Utau looked at Amu. Amu was having trouble breathing, and was shouting at the man feeling Utau up. She looked at the guardian characters. They were in their own eggs, and they were close to cracking.
“Go ahead. Cry out for the one you love? Your dear brother or that skater boy.” The goon cackled. His hand was about to touch the side of her breast.
“GET YOUR HANDS OFF OF HER!”
Utau couldn’t move, but her savior had just appeared. A soccer ball bounced off of the goon’s head. He turned, and Kukai appeared, floating on his skateboard. He had transformed into Sky Jack.
“Kukai!” Amu cried in joy. Utau stared, and he nodded back. He grabbed the goon, and threw him to the ground, a decent distance bellow.
“NO ONE TOUCHES UTAU LIKE THAT?! GOT IT?!” He roared.
“Holy Crown!”
A golden light blew the X eggs away, and Utau and Amu were suddenly falling. A golden bubble appeared under them, in the shape of a crown. Utau was slowly lowered with Amu. Someone embraced her halfway down, and Tadase caught Amu.
In these arms, that were so familiar to her, she felt so safe.
She looked up at Kukai.
In his green eyes, she saw nothing but a sincere love, a glowing affection. They were eyes for her alone.
In these arms, where she felt so assured that she was only for him, and that he loved her with every cell in his body, the devotion was almost cruel. Arms that had held her on one of her darkest nights, arms that had over and over comforted her. This boy had stitched her up when her brother left her bleeding.
He was everything she wanted, and so much more.
And she sincerely didn’t deserve such a wonderful man.  
“TIGHTROPE DANCER!”
Rima and Nagihiko appeared. Both were panting. Nagihiko wasn’t as fast compared to everyone else when they are Character transformed. Rima, in general, wasn’t a runner.
Rima’s rope lashed out, knocked the small satellite from the goon’s hand. The X eggs moved out of the precise formation, and became a mob of mindless, lost hearts.
“Rima! Nagi!” Amu cried. Tadase still held her. He kissed her hair, and set her down. Amu was blushing furiously.
“Amu.” Utau called.
“Right!”
Kukai set her down, and Utau touched his cheek, and sighed. She didn’t want to end such a moment. But these eggs...she wouldn’t allow them to stay Xs.
“Eru, come on.” Utau said, turning to Eru. Eru nodded. She felt the immediate rush, as she said the key words. “My Own Heart, UNLOCK!”
For some reason, this character transformation was different. Eru was an angel, and she had this thing for love. With this transformation, Utau’s feelings were laid cleanly before her. The pros and cons for each relationship.
On one side, the cons outweighed the pros...
“Character Transformation! Seraphic Charm!”
“Character Transformation! Amulet Clover!”
Utau felt her wings twitch, and she bent her knees a little. She shot up into the sky, and she spread her arms and wings, and let her throat open wide.
“Angel Cradle!” Utau sang out.
Utau let her soprano voice sing her gentle song. It was her heart’s song. Each note was a note that was carved in her heart. When she was little, she swore that her heart was made of sheet music.
Singing this now, Utau listened to her own song. She watched her magic unfold, the hearts becoming pure.
Utau’s song made people’s hearts once again pure, clean. In their eggs, there were no bumps or cracks. In her heart, there was a fissure, ready to split her heart in two when she told Ikuto and Kukai who she chose. But, her heart eggs weren’t X eggs, and they didn’t have breaks.
As her song ended, and Amu’s honey took the rest, she hovered, watching. She felt arms wrap around her waist, and she felt her feet slid onto a flying skate board.
“My sweet angel...” Kukai whispered, kissing her neck. Utau smiled, and touched his hands around her stomach.
“Kukai...”
“Utau, I love you.”
“I love you, Kukai.”
In his arms...it was so peaceful and loving...it was almost cruel.
Ikuto stared at them from the tree, and turned. He ran faster than normal, because this scene, though beautiful, made his heart ache.
His sister loved another.
His icy blue eyes clouded with tears.

*Note- In Kutau-Purity 1, Utau is guaranteed a spot to sing on Summer Sonic. Summer Sonic 09 was this huge concert thing that took place over the summer in Japan. This year, they had Lincoln Park, Ne-Yo, Nine Inch Nails, Beyonce, B’z, Lady GaGa, and My Chemical Romance playing and a lot more. It was the 10th Anniversary.
